RIDING THE PINK WAVE INTO SUMMER 2023
I was asked to design and build the show package for HGTV’s Barbie DreamHouse Challenge, a home renovation show that features a cast of HGTV stars competing against one another to Barbie-ify an unassuming house in Southern California.

The creative challenge on this project was walking the line between the network’s brand — hammers smashing holes in drywall — and our partner IP’s brand which is very pink and very girly. We went through many iterations of the graphics in the early stages until we landed on a style that drew heavily from the design of vintage toy packages.

This show required a great amount of graphics and building all of them on schedule was a collaborative effort between myself, Design Director Brian Keenan, HGTV’s Bob Kirsh and Mission Control Media’s Rebecca Miller and Matt Duclos. The theme heard in the Open was composed by Chris Merritt.

Each team was represented with packaged doll versions of themselves.

A general purpose mortise. I used Blender to create all the 3D elements.

Despite the fact that the made-over DreamHouse is barely visible in the Open (we didn’t want to ruin the proper reveal) I actually modeled and textured most of the house for my own satisfaction. I used Blender, Substance Painter, and Marmoset Toolbag.
